Another big announcement from your committee last week! State awards are coming in 2023 so get your images ready now. We have held multiple working sessions and asked our members and sponsors what you want and we have listened! The planning and organising of the awards has been a huge undertaking but worth the effort as we believe we have a template that is relevant, inclusive, and truly represents the WA Photography and Videography community.
On behalf of Pro Photography WA we would like to give condolences to the family and friends of Richard Woldendorp who passed away this April.
How did you start in photography?
My interest in photography was kindled at the age of twelve when I was given a Kodak Box Brownie Flash II camera and a Kodak Developing & Printing kit. In my late teens I purchased a Canon FT-QL SLR camera.
On completing a cadetship in Mechanical Draughting I was employed at Western Mining’s Kwinana Nickel Refinery as the Maintenance department Draughtsman and part of my job role was to take photographic records of maintenance projects and material testing.

As the first quarter of the year comes to a close, PPWA made a big announcement last week!
Accreditation is something we have been working on since the inception of PPWA. It was a request that was often brought up in our surveys and town hall meetings. We know you wanted it, and now we are providing it!!
We have some wonderful assessors who have been hand selected and trained to assess each application. So now all you need to do is have your folio of images ready, the set of proofs and the business info!

A recap of our amazing event at Team Digital with Nikon on the 22 March 2023.
This was a free event for members and was a fantastic opportunity to learn video techniques.
The workshop involved both technical and storytelling tips. The story telling tips I feel were the most valuable of the event.
As photographers, we already have a grasp on exposure and camera settings. Having Mike clarify what works for video as opposed to photo was fundamental in demystifying video for us.
Personally, I enjoyed learning how to tell a story with motion pictures as opposed to a still frame. Something I have struggled with, when shooting video.
A question that was brought up was pricing and the fact that editing would easily take as long as the shoot itself.

Perth Pro Lab is my business child, Paul Jarvis is my name. I am a professional photographer of some twenty odd years. I started Perth Pro Lab partially by accident and partially out of frustration.
